Coastal Pulmonary Medicine, P.A. was formed in 1999 by Drs. W. Giles Allen, Thaddeus Dunn and Brian Gilmore, in response to the need for an independent, high-quality practice in Wilmington, devoted solely to the specialties of Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care medicine. Since then, Coastal Pulmonary Medicine added Dr. Brian Legere from The Cleveland Clinic in 2000, and Dr. Christian Lloyd from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2002. Coastal Pulmonary Medicine moved to its current location at 1090 Medical Center Drive in April of 2002.

The physicians of Coastal Pulmonary Medicine have nearly fifty years of combined experience in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and have published many scientific articles in the field. They also can claim a number of “firsts” in the Wilmington area, including oversight of the creation of The Sleep Disorders Center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (Dr. Allen), the first physician in Wilmington board-certified in Critical Care by the American Board of Internal Medicine (Dr. Dunn), and the first pulmonologist board-eligible in Sleep Disorders (Dr. Legere). Drs. Legere and Lloyd are also the only two pulmonogists in the area trained in all aspects of interventional bronchoscopy.
